Irwin JacobsIrwin Mark Jacobs and Jack Keil Wolf—two engineers whose groundbreaking research and designs in digital communication helped propel the information revolution—are the winners of the prestigious 2011 Marconi Society Fellowship and Prize. Prominent Information Theorist Jack Keil Wolf Dies

Jack WolfJack Keil Wolf, a pioneer in information theory and its applications, died in La Jolla, California on May 12 at the age of 76, following a battle with cancer. A member of both the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Sciences, Wolf made profound contributions to digital communication and data storage technology. Wolf served as a professor of electrical and computer engineering at UC San Diego since 1984. More

UC San Diego to Honor Family of Leon Roach with May 23 TributeThe University of California, San Diego will pay tribute to Triton parents Léon and MaryAnn Roach May 23 for their generous contributions to the UC San Diego community in memory of their son and former Triton student-athlete Léon T. Roach III. The Roach family coordinated efforts and resources to install new block wall terraces for pole vault spectators at Triton Track and Field Stadium and established the Léon T. Roach Academic Scholarship for Athletes. More than 180 people, including the campus community and Roach family and friends, volunteered to make the impressive project a reality. More
